Inserting Headers & Footers
A header is a little description that appears along the top of a page, on every
page of the document, so that the reader knows what's what. Usually,
headers include the page number and a title.
A footer is the same thing as
a header, except it appears along the bottom of the page, as befits its name.
Microsoft Word help you with this task easily.
To
insert a header or footer into a document, follow these steps:

Choose View from the menu bar. |

Select Header and Footer.

upon the top of your document.
A new toolbar ― Header and
Footer ― appears on the screen. |

Type
your header in the box, or if you want to go to the
footer, click the Switch Between Header And Footer
button on the Header and Footer toolbar, and type your
footer. |

While you're typing away in the Header or Footer
box, you can call on most of the commands on the
Standard and Formatting toolbars.
You can change the texts font and size, click an
alignment button, or paste text from the
Clipboard.
You can even add a border to the
header or footer.

To
insert page numbers with your header and footer, click the
Insert Page Number button on the Header and Footer
toolbar. |

Once you're done, click the Close button on the Header and
Footer toolbar. |

Q: Why is my
Header and Footer grey?
Don't get scared now! This
is Word's way of showing you that this is the header and this is
the footer.
You can double-click in the grey header or
footer (in Print Layout View) to go back into Header & Footer
mode.

Preview button to get a good overview!

While you're busy with your header or footer you can also take advantage of the buttons on the Header and
Footer toolbar. Microsoft Word help with these buttons easily.
Have a look at what they do as listed below.

Opens a drop-down menu with options for inserting
information about the document, including when it was
last saved and printed, and who created it. |

Inserts a page number. |

Inserts the number of pages of the entire document. |
|

Opens the Page Number Format dialog box so you can
choose a format for the page number in the header or
footer. |

These buttons inserts the current date and the current
time. |

Opens the Layout tab of the
Page Setup dialog box so
that you can tell Word that you want a different
header and footer on the first page of the document,
or that you want different headers and footers on odd
and even pages (you can use this feature if you're
printing on both sides of the page). |

Shows or hides the text on the page so that you can
see what the header or footer looks like in relation
to the text. |

Tells Word that you don't want this header or footer
to be the same as the previous section of the
document.
When this button is pressed down, the
header or footer is the same as the header or footer
in the previous section of the document and the Header
or Footer box reads Same As Previous.
To enter a
different header or footer for a section, click this
button and enter the header or footer.
To change
headers or footers, you must
divide a document into
sections. |

Switches between the header and the footer type
area. |

Shows the header or footer in the previous and next
sections of a document that has more than one section. |

This button allows you to exit the Header and Footer
box. |

|
You might have inserted a header or footer content which you want to
remove from your document. Microsoft Word help with this task easily.
If your document has the same header or
footer on all the pages, removing the header or footer from one of the
pages will remove it automatically from all of them.
To
remove a header or footer, follow these steps:

Choose View ► Header and Footer from the menu bar. |

You can also double-click the header or footer if you are
working in Print Layout View.

Select the header or footer content that you want to remove. |
|
|

Press
the delete key. |

Once you're done, click the Close button on the Header and
Footer toolbar. |
